MTN - The Muslim Teachers Network

One of the main branches of the MEF is the Muslim Teachers Network (MTN). The idea for setting this network arose from a brain storming session held with Muslim Teachers. We feel strongly that this organisation has the potential to play a pivotal role in the future of education in Luton - it has many functions with perhaps the most important being:

  1. Providing training and assistance to the education sector in relation to addressing Muslim pupils needs and cultural awareness
  2. Encouraging the participation of Muslim Parents in their child’s education
  3. Directly providing support and advice to Muslim pupils at risk of disengagement and alienation
  4. Providing role models for Muslim pupils and promoting teaching as a profession to the Muslim community
  5. Actively engaging in dialogue with Luton Council departments and providing expertise in relation to the educational needs of Muslim children
  6. Sharing best practice and promoting training opportunities for Muslim teachers

Recruitment and retention of good teachers from the Muslim community is vital to improve the educational attainment levels of Muslim children and increase their engagement within the educational system. Initial funding provided by Campus Luton during 2007, has enabled the MTN to run 2 training courses, to enhance teaching abilities in the classroom.
